What test is better for me to take: ACT or SAT?
Most schools will accept both but the ACT is more widly used. The ACT is typically used at and private schools in the middle of the country and on the west coast and at any state school. The SAT is wide spread on the East coast and is given preferential treatment at some schools ,like ivies,in the form of superscoring (the best individual subscores are taken and added up to form a "super" composite). There are few highly selective schools that superscore the ACT, the only one I can think of is the Washington University of St. Louis. Most kids find the ACT to be easier and find the grading curve more generous than the one used on the SAT but it varies based on your own personal test taking style. The ACT is curriculum based and tests what you know and the SAT is reasoning based and is more like an IQ test. . .even though most people prefer the ACT I like the SAT better.
