Used external hard drive not being recognized?

i took internal hdd from my old computer ( bec my old pc had some power problems) and put it in a usb external hdd enclosure in hopes of salvaging data from it. My laptop was able to recgonize the device after I switched usb clabes BUT i still cannot copy files/folders from it. It doesn't show up in my computer or disk management, it is only avalaible on device manager ( labled disk drive). When it is attached, my laptop kinda slows down, i don't know if that's normal. I want to know how to retrieve these files, do i need to dl drivers so I can read the hdd in the enclosure? i AM pretty sure the old hdd is not corrupted, i can hear it spinning
