Should Christianity get the credit for secular society?

Martin Luther probably deserves some credit for it since he split Christianity enough for science to take hold even though he was himself a bad person and the movement he accidentally started was no better than the Catholic church. His only worthwhile contribution was allowing some leaders to get away from the control of the Pope which allowed for some countries to relax restrictions.
