My dad is really really sick..?

Hi, My dad has came down with bronchitis, he is a smoker and has been for 45+years. I know its that time of year and all, but this is bad. His cough literally sounds like the cough of death and I hate hearing it. He is on medicine, i think its an anti-biotic, but its almost sounding like pneumonia now and i'm really scared, is there anything I can do to help you think? This is terrible.
